Fall is officially here! Break out the cozy sweaters and get out there to enjoy all of the fun festivities around New Jersey. Whether you love Fall and everything that comes along with it, or you’re already dreaming of warmer weather – here is a Fall Bucket List of things to do to make the most of the season!

Pick Your Own Apples

Freshly picked apples are crisp, delicious, and refreshing! Plus – you get to enjoy the beautiful apple orchards as you walk through trying to find the best apples to take home. Visit one of these local farms: Demarest Farms in Hillsdale, NJ or Masker Orchards in Warwick, NY.

Pick Pumpkins

Of course you can pick a pumpkin up from the store, but it is much more fun to walk through a field of pumpkins and pick your own! Put them on the porch or around the house to decorate your home or maybe even carve Jack-O-Lanterns. You can pick pumpkins at any of these local farms:

  1. Ward’s Pumpkin Patch – Ridgewood, NJ
  2. Demarest Farm – Hillsdale, NJ
  3. Abma’s Farm – Wyckoff, NJ

Drink Apple Cider with Fresh-Baked Donuts

Hot or cold apple cider is one of Fall’s iconic drinks. Also, freshly made donuts such as pumpkin and apple cider flavors are absolutely delicious! Many farms that offer apple and pumpkin picking sell their own apple cider and donuts with their farm-fresh ingredients!

  1. Demarest Farms – Hillsdale, NJ
  2. Abma’s Farm – Wyckoff, NJ

Bake Pumpkin Bread

Sometimes, when it’s cold and rainy on a Fall day, you may prefer to stay home. You can still have fun and enjoy Fall even from inside the house! Try making your own Pumpkin Bread using this recipe: http://bit.ly/2fAgEFd

Find Your Way Through A Corn Maze

Test your skills and see how fast you can get out of a corn maze! You may have to do a little extra traveling to get to a farm with a corn maze, but Wightman Farms in Morristown, NJ has a great one – check it out!

Sunflower Maze

Just as fun as corn mazes, there is a Sunflower Maze in Sussex County. The goal is to walk through gorgeous, tall sunflowers and find your way out! (Sussex County Sunflower Maze – Sandyston, NJ)

Get Spooked at Haunted Attractions

There are so many scary attractions – some are child appropriate and others better for adults who love to get spooked! Here are two moderately scary attractions that could be good for the whole family.

  1. A. Casola’s Farm – Holdmel, NJ
  2. Zombie Hayrides at Brookhollow’s Barnyard – Boonton Township, NJ

Go Hiking

Hiking is always fun, but when the trees in the mountains start turning shades of red and orange – it’s even more gorgeous! Take a walk at Ramapo Valley Reservation in Mahwah, NJ and enjoy the stunning fall foliage!

The Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze

Picture the night being lit by carved Jack-O-Lanterns designed to make cool shapes and objects! It may inspire you to step up your own carving game.

Fall Festivals

Almost every weekend you can find a festival! These are generally a somewhat inexpensive way to have some fun and enjoy the weather outdoors.

  1. Oktoberfest – Leonia, NJ – September 23
  2. Bergenfest – Rockleigh, NJ – October 5
  3. Food Truck Festival – Wyckoff, NJ – October 13
  1. Hudson Valley Restaurant Week – Hudson Valley – October 30-November 12
  2. New Jersey Harvest Wine Festival – Short Hills, NJ – November 3
  3. Kosherfest – Secaucus, NJ – November 14 & 15
